田島 清兵衛
TAJIMA Seibei
Born in 1925 in Aza Iikura, Kodama-cho, Kodama-gun (formerly Kanaya-mura), Saitama Prefecture.
At the age of 15, he became a regular elementary school teacher and graduated from Saitama Seishi (now Saitama University).
After the war, he returned from the army.
His passion for painting continued, and he studied at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, graduating in 1949.
He exhibited his works at the Watercolor League Exhibition and other exhibitions to raise the status of watercolor painting, and formed a painting club in the town of Onishi to educate the local community on the importance of painting.
In 1970, he established the Tajima Art Institute and devoted himself to teaching younger artists. He held many solo exhibitions, including "Landscape Exhibition around Shimokubo Dam.
He produced many heartwarming watercolor paintings in which he frankly faced the landscapes.
In his later years, he also painted religious subjects such as "Arhatsama" and "Hoetsu.
1925年埼玉県児玉郡児玉町(旧金屋村)字飯倉に生まれる。
15歳で小学校本科正教員となり、埼玉青師(現埼玉大学)を卒業。
戦後、軍隊より帰還。
絵画への情熱がつのり東京藝術大学に学び1949年卒業。
水彩連盟展ほかへの出品によって水彩画の地位向上に、また鬼石町に絵画同好会を結成して地域の絵画の啓蒙につとめる。
また1970年には田島美術研究所を開設し後進の指導に力をつくした。「下久保ダムを中心とした風景展」ほか多くの個展を開催。
率直に風景と向き合った心温まる水彩画を多数制作。
晩年は「羅漢さま」「法悦」といった宗教性を帯びた主題も描いた。
