Kanna Art Festival 2014 Chiaki Medal 01.jpg

堀越 千秋   HORIKOSHI Chiaki

Born in Tokyo in 1948, he began living in Spain (Madrid) in 1976 and opened his studio in Kamiizumi in 1995. Since then, he has traveled back and forth between Spain and Kamiizumi.

He has been in contact with flamenco and its cante singers, the Gitanos, and has sung his own songs, intoxicated by the art of flamenco. He drew what he wanted to see with his body, and was surprised and delighted by what appeared.

He created stage designs as if he were playing with young people in Onishi and Kamiizumi. He wrote with a vigor and vigor. He fired bowls with holes in them in an anagama he built in the mountains and called them "national treasures" himself.

In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Civilian Merit of the Encomienda by the Spanish government. In 2016, he returned to Spain and passed away after exhibiting his work at the 3rd Kanna Autumn Art Festival.
